Who are Advanced Therapies Wales?
Our programme was established by Welsh Government in 2019 to sit as part of the Precision Medicine Portfolio in response to their Statement of Intent for Advanced Therapies. We are hosted by Velindre University NHS Trust but have an all-Wales remit, linking in with colleagues at UK and international levels.
As part of our governance structure we have a Programme Board, with two programme working groups reporting in, one for Adoption of ATMPs, the other for Research Development and Innovation.
As well as having a small programme team, we fund other roles in relation to advanced therapy development, such as an ATMP Pharmacist, Specialist Neurology Nurse roles etc
We co-ordinated the creation of the Delivery Plan for Advanced Therapies in Wales to shape the next 5 years’ activity and are working with the partner organisations involved to achieve its objectives.
We are also core members of the Advanced Therapies Treatment Centres network a UK programme, coordinated by Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult, co-leading the Midlands-Wales Advanced Therapy Treatment Centre along with colleagues from University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust.
